Comparative analysis of corrosion resistance of Zinc and Zn-Al-Mg coatings on carbon steel

One of the main ways to protect steel against corrosion is by galvanizing process. This process has been continuously developed and its first optimization was performed addition Aluminum in coating. As a result, Zn-5wt.%Al 55wt.%Al-Zn coatings were developed. Recently, search for increased resistance led development zinc coating with magnesium aluminum. In this work, comparative study coated Zn-2wt.%Al-1wt.%Mg alloy performed. Samples exposed immersion tests 0.1 M NaCl electrolyte analyzed using SEM, XDR EIS. On zinc-coated steel, substrate attacked after 48 days immersion, while on showed corrosive 90-day immersion. The product formed from cause better compared steel.
